Game Mode in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Optimizes iPhone and iPad Gaming Experience

Apple unveiled iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 on Monday, previewing several exciting new and improved features on the way for iPhone and iPad users when the new mobile operating systems are released to the public in September. One of the new features Game Mode, the iOS and iPadOS version of the performance-enhancing features that came to macOS Sonoma last year.

When turned on, Game Mode optimizes the iPhone and iPad gaming experience by prioritizing a game’s access to your iPhone or iPad’s processor, while also lowering processor usage for background tasks.

Gaming becomes even more immersive with features like Game Mode and Personalized Spatial Audio, which put players in the middle of the action in upcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard. And with Game Porting Toolkit 2, developers have new tools that make it easier to bring even more advanced games to iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

Apple says Game Mode also improves the responsiveness of connected AirPods and game controllers by reducing input latency and audio latency.

… AirPods updates also provide the best wireless audio latency Apple has ever delivered for mobile gaming, and add Personalized Spatial Audio for even more immersive gameplay.

Gamers don’t have to remember to switch on Game Mode, as it turns on automatically when you launch a game. (You’ll see a brief notification that it’s turned on.)

Capcom announced on Monday that AAA title Resident Evil 7 is coming to ‌iPhone‌, iPad, and Macs on July 2.
