I noticed a report today from MacRumors that Siri on the HomePod and HomePod mini has apparently forgotten how to tell time. So, I tried it with my HomePod mini. Sure enough, then I asked, “what time is it?” Siri could not tell me and instead directed me to ask on my iPhone.
“I found some web results, I can show them if you ask again from your iPhone,” was Siri’s response to the time inquiry. Oddly enough, asking what time it is in a specific location, like Los Angeles, California, Siri is able to respond with the correct time for that area. Asking Siri on my iPhone receives the response you’d expect to receive, which is the local time.
While Apple will likely fix things soon with a server-side fix, in the meantime include your location to receive a correct answer.
While MacRumors says Apple seems to have fixed the issue somewhat, as asking “what time is it?” does provide the correct time, asking “what’s the time?” or “can you tell me the time?” will still result in being directed to your iPhone. Unfortunately, I haven’t even been that lucky, as when I ask any of these three time-related questions I am directed to my iPhone.
Oh well, I guess I can make do with my Apple Watch for now. However, it is a little disconcerting, as Siri seems to be getting dumber. I’ve been having issues in getting responses from Siri, especially when it comes to HomeKit-related tasks, such as turning lights off and on. Are you having any issues with Siri lately?
