Apple is expected to add more new emojis to its current collection for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices. The company does that regularly, based on the updates to the emoji catalog by the Unicode Consortium. Now, there are seven new emoji that we will likely see some time in late 2024 or early 2025.
The Unicode Consortium today opened the beta review period for Unicode 16, which includes the new emoji characters. The new emoji characters being considered include face with bags under eyes, fingerprint, leafless tree, root vegetable, harp, shovel, and splatter. The beta period lasts until July 2, and after that, Unicode 16 be released and the new characters will be officially approved.
Although Emojipedia created and shared sample designs for the proposed emoji, they are not the exact versions that will be used on iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other Apple devices.
We will then see Apple, Microsoft, Google, and other device manufacturers add the new emoji via future software updates. It usually takes a while for Apple and other device manufacturers to create their own artwork for the new emoji characters after they are approved, so we likely won’t see any of the new characters until after the release of iOS 18.
Apple last brought new emojis to its devices in the iS 17.4 update in March of this year.
