New Report Reveals iOS 18’s AI Features for Siri, Spotlight, Other Apps

A new report by AppleInsider reveals the new system features for iOS 18, as Siri and Spotlight Search are set to receive new artificial intelligence features that will be available across iOS apps like Safari, Mail, and Messages.

Over the last few months, we’ve seen several rumors about what new AI features we can expect to see debut in iOS 18, and now AppleInsider reports that it has learned specifics on the functionality of Apple’s Ajax large language model (LLM), as well as information on features the company has been testing alongside it.

The report says Safari will gain a text summarization tool called Intelligent Browsing that allows users to generate a short summary of any webpage, and ‌Siri‌ could gain a similar feature that works in the Messages app. The AI technology will reportedly have the ability to analyze message content and automatically generate responses. Spotlight search will be enhanced with more intelligent results and improved sorting, and it will work in apps like Contacts and Calendar to generate responses.

Several reports have indicated that Apple’s initial AI features will run solely on-device, rather than connecting to a cloud service, making Apple’s AI more private and secure than the AI options from competitors like Google.

Apple is expected to unveil its AI features when it debuts its new operating systems at WWDC in June.
