LG TV Apple Music App Adds Support for Dolby Atmos

As first reported by FlatpanelsHD, The Apple Music app for LG TVs has been updated to add support for Dolby Atmos, making it the first smart TV manufacturer to offer support for the feature in the app.

LG has now become the first TV maker to support Apple Music’s Dolby Atmos, with the latest update to the Apple Music app.

Users will now be able to experience immersive audio that enhances the spatial perception of sound, previously achievable only with external hardware.

The feature is available for 2018 or later (webOS 4.0 or later) LG Smart TVs. Apple Music’s Dolby Atmos also works on LG Smart TVs that do not support Dolby Atmos if a 2023 or 2024 LG soundbar is connected. LG Smart TVs “can also directly connect to Apple AirPod or other Apple devices via Bluetooth to enjoy Dolby Atmos”. A 3-month free trial of Apple Music is offered to users worldwide within the Apple Music app on the LG TV.

Before this update, ‌Apple Music‌’s Dolby Atmos support was available only on TVs through an Apple TV 4K, paired with either Apple’s HomePods or Sonos speakers connected through the Sonos app. We can expect to see other smart TV manufacturers follow suit, adding support for Dolby Atmos in their own ‌Apple Music‌ apps.
