Bloomberg: Apple Finalizing OpenAI Deal to Bring ChatGPT to iOS 18

Apple is finalizing a deal with OpenAI that should bring the power of ChatGPT to Apple’s next iPhone operating system, iOS 18, according to a Bloomberg report from the weekend.

The report claims that the two companies have been “finalizing terms for a pact to use ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18.” No details were provided as to how the popular chatbot would integrate with Apple’s software.

The agreement would add ChatGPT to the tool to access a range of AI features that Apple is expected to bring to iPhones this year. Apple has also reportedly been in ongoing talks with Google to license its Gemini chatbot, but those discussions have reportedly not borne fruit.

Apple will unveil iOS 18, as well as updated versions of all of its other operating systems, at its annual WWDC developer conference in June. iOS 18 is said to be one of the biggest iOS updates in years.

Apple is reportedly building data centers with servers powered by M2 Ultra (and some M4) chips to expand its AI capabilities.
