Apple May Finally Be Working on an Apple TV App for Android

For some reason, I was under the mistaken impression that Apple TV+ was already available on the Android platform. However, it is not. The good news is that the Android version of the Apple TV app looks to be on the way, as Bloomberg has spotted a job listing for an Android software engineer to work on the Apple TV app.

“The Apple TV app team is looking for a proactive, hardworking, and experienced senior Android engineer to lead the development of fun new features, and to help build an application used by millions to watch and discover TV and sports,” reads the summary.

While Apple has released a few mobile apps on Google Play, including Apple Music and Beats, its Apple TV app has been on the missing list (well, not MY missing list, but…). Currently, the only way to watch Apple TV+ content on an Android device is by visiting tv.apple.com in a browser. (The Apple TV app has been available for Android TV and Google TV devices for quite a while.)

It’s a bit odd that Apple took this long to begin working on the Apple TV app for Android, especially since it’s already on Android TV and Google TV.

While Apple has yet to officially announce Apple TV for Android, we may hear more about it at WWDC 2024, which kicks off on June 10 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time / 1 p.m. Eastern Time with a keynote address.
