Apple today discontinued the ninth-generation iPad. That iPad was the last iPad to be equipped with a Lightning port. Apple has also lowered the base price of the tenth-generation iPad, which now has a starting price of $349 in the U.S., done from $449.
The ninth-generation iPad had started at $329 in the U.S., so the tenth-generation iPad is now within $20 of the discontinued iPad’s price point.
The entire iPad lineup is now equipped with USB-C ports, excluding refurbished models. The original Apple Pencil with a Lightning connector remains available for $99.
Apple did not announce any hardware improvements for the 10th-generation iPad or the current iPad mini.
