Rare Factory-Sealed Original iPhone Hits the Auction Block

A rare 4GB original iPhone has been put up for auction, and if previous sales figures tell us anything, the OG iPhone should bring in over $100,000 at auction.

LCG Auctions is currently auctioning off the unopened 4GB 2007 iPhone, the starting bid was listed at $10,000, and at the time of this article, the current bid sits at $11,000. The auction is set to wrap up on March 24.

The 4GB OG iPhone model is quite rare. This is because Apple discontinued the 4GB model on September 5, 2007, just a bit over two months after its release. Based on previous sales, LCG Auctions believes that it will bring in over $100,000.

In July 2023, a factory-sealed original 2007 4GB iPhone was sold at auction for $190,373, far exceeding the previous record for an auctioned ‌iPhone‌. The iPhone had been expected to bring a record $100,000, but the final sales price far exceeded the expected amount.

The ‌iPhone‌ was originally sold in two storage options, with either 4GB or 8GB of storage when it launched on June 29, 2007. The 8GB model proved to be much more popular, causing Apple to cease selling the 4GB model after just a few months of sales, replacing it with a higher 16GB storage model.

The 4GB original ‌iPhone‌ was only available for a limited amount of time and didn’t sell well, making it the rarest of the first-generation ‌iPhone‌ models. The 4GB model was sold for $499, while the 8GB version cost $599.
