Fitness company Peloton has announced it is dropping support for Apple GymKit in favor of Peloton One-Tap tracking. The news came in an email to Peloton users on Monday.
Apple introduced GymKit as part of watchOS 4.1, back in October 2017.
Peloton users with an Apple Watch will likely not complain about the move too much, as their health data is already synced to Peloton’s app, which also shares the data with Apple’s Health app.
However, existing Bike+ owners who originally purchased the Peloton $2,495 stationary workout bike simply because GymKit was an exclusive perk, may be a bit perturbed. Unfortunately, GymKit became less important after Peloton rolled out Apple Watch integration to its fitness equipment back in 2022.
While Peloton’s app will no longer use Apple’s GymKit API to do fitness data syncing, the app will continue to track distance, pace, heart rate metrics, and other information, displaying the information live on Peloton screens.
