Last week, fitness company Peloton announced it was dropping support for Apple GymKit in favor of Peloton One-Tap tracking. The news came in an email to Peloton users last Monday. As you might imagine, customers were less than happy with the decision and complained to the company, leading Peloton to announce a change in plans.
Peloton on Thursday said that after listening to member feedback on GymKit, the integration will continue to be offered.
Peloton was planning to dump GymKit integration in favor of the Peloton One-Tap tracking feature. However, GymKit has been a key feature on Peloton’s $2,500 Bike+ since it debuted back in 2020, and has been available on other Peloton machines since 2022.
Members will continue to have the choice of connecting their Apple Watch during cycling classes by tapping the screen to activate GymKit, or using Peloton’s “One-Tap Tracking” connection method.
One-Tap tracking monitors distance, pace, and heart rate metrics, but only basic information is synced to the Apple Health app. Meanwhile, GymKit also makes data like cadence, average speed, and average power available in the Health app for Peloton users.
