New information about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 lineup has surfaced on social media website X from user Majin Bu. While this user admittedly has a mixed track record when it comes to iPhone rumors, they have occasionally been accurate, and their latest post could very well be our first look at a genuine iPhone 16 part.
In their post (shared by MacRumors), Bu shared an image of what appears to be the main camera chassis for the base model iPhone 16, featuring a vertical camera layout. Although the part image was posted upside down, this does not mean the component is not authentic.
MacRumors said it has been able to independently verify the authenticity of the component design pictured above. The publication was able to confirm that the item featured in Bu’s post is the main camera chassis for the I-34 camera project, intended for use in the base model iPhone 16 set to be released later this year.
The leaked image of the component jibes with earlier rumors we’ve seen about the iPhone 16’s new vertical camera layout. Earlier this month, we saw a prototype boasting a vertical camera arrangement with a pill-shaped raised surface. The camera bump houses two separate camera rings for the Wide and Ultrawide cameras.
In addition to a new vertical camera layout, the iPhone 16 is also expected to gain the Action button from the iPhone 15 Pro, while also gaining an additional Capture button, located on the right side of the device.
