Apple Music Testing New Feature to Import Libraries From Other Music Streaming Services

Apple Music is currently testing a new feature that allows users to import individual songs as well as playlists from other music streaming services.

References to the feature in the latest ‌Apple Music‌ beta for Android were first spotted by a Reddit user, and MacRumors says it has independently confirmed that the references are indeed in the APK, or Android Package Kit.

The new feature is said to be created in partnership with SongShift, a third-party service that allows users to transfer their music libraries and playlists between various music streaming services.

The Reddit user shared images that show prompts in the Android Apple Music app that offer to “add saved music and playlists you made in other music services to your ‌Apple Music‌ library.” The option also appears in the Android app’s settings.

MacRumors says the feature is not yet fully functional, and the screens are not displaying for all users who are running the beta. This suggests this is early days in testing the feature.

While third-party music transfer services have been around for a while now, many of the services have limited functionality without a payment of some sort, be it a one-time purchase or a subscription.
