Analyst: Only 60,000 to 80,000 Vision Pro Headsets Available at Launch

Apple will only have 60,000 to 80,000 Vision Pro headsets available for the February 2 launch of the device, according to Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo expects to see the Vision Pro sell out “soon after the release.”

In a tweet from earlier today, Kuo said, “Although Apple has not clearly defined the product positioning and key applications of Vision Pro, and there are doubts that the price is not cheap, the user experience (e.g., giving users the illusion that they can control the user interface with their minds) created by the groundbreaking technology innovations, along with the base of core fans and heavy users, should make it easy to sell out after the release.”

Apple is expected to produce fewer than 400,000 Vision Pro headsets in 2024 due to the complexity of manufacturing.

Kuo also said that while the first batch of headsets might sell out, the demand for it might drop off “after the novelty wears off.” Continued sales will depend on “clear and correct” product positioning and key applications from Apple.

The Apple Vision Pro will be available starting at $3,499 (U.S.) with 256GB of storage. Pre-orders for Apple Vision Pro will begin on Friday, January 19, at 5 a.m. PST, with availability beginning Friday, February 2.
