As first reported by MacRumors, Apple has broken a 12-years-long tradition by not releasing a new iPad model in 2023, marking the first time the company has not released a new iPad of any kind during an entire calendar year, since the product line first debuted in 2010.
In the past, we’ve seen the Cupertino company release as many as four new iPad models per year. However, the most recent iPad debuts took place in 2022. The only iPad-related release during 2023 was the Apple Pencil with USB-C.
As noted by MacRumors, here are the iPad models and their year of release over the last 14 years:
Apple could be slowing things down as the iPad has slowly become more and more advanced and has been widely adopted by consumers, diminishing the need for constant updates to stay ahead of competitors.
2024 is expected to be a much more significant year when it comes to iPad updates, as most observers expect to see Apple release revamped models of the entry-level iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro during this year.
