Nikkei Asia Report Says Apple is Focusing on OLED Instead of a Foldable iPad

Nikkei Asia Report Says Apple is Focusing on OLED Instead of a Foldable iPad

Apple is preferring to focus on bringing an OLED display to the iPad Pro and MacBook Lineups instead of focusing on foldable devices, according to a Nikkei Asia report.

Apple is widely expected to offer an iPad Pro with an OLED display for the first time next year, to be followed by OLED displays for the MacBook lineup. Nikkei Asia’s report corroborates these claims, saying sources familiar with the matter tell it that Apple’s first OLED MacBook model is currently under development, with a production target of the second half of 2025.

The report also claims Apple is currently evaluating the potential of a foldable iPad once the transition to OLED is complete. However, foldable displays for the iPad is not its main focus for Apple and the company has yet to have a timeline set in cement for the release of such a device. The report jibes with previous reports from other sources.

In October, a report from DigiTimes said its supply chain sources told it that Apple is working with suppliers on the development of the foldable ‌iPad‌, with small-scale production scheduled as soon as the end of 2024. The publication said Apple could debut the device by late 2024 or early 2025 if progress on the project remains steady.
