Apple has shared a new iPhone 15 ad that promoted some of the camera capabilities of the handset, particularly its portrait mode.
On iPhone 15 you can turn your photos into portraits after you take the shot. And for even more control, you can shift the focus between subjects.
In the ad, a 2020’s version of Peter, Paul, and Mary (look it up kids) is working on their latest album cover. One of the band members uses an iPhone to edit a picture of the trio in the group, using the Portrait subject focus adjustment feature to focus on herself in the foreground, resulting in her bandmates being blurred in the background.
She then hands the iPhone to another member of the band, who edits the image to focus on himself, resulting in a blurred background and foreground, cutting her out of the image.
While the two bicker over which version of the image is best, a third member of the band joins the conversation and taps the image to focus on himself, blurring out the other two. The female member of the band once again makes an adjustment to the photo, and it appears that the issue won’t be settled any time soon.
“Turn your photos into portraits,” reads the tagline of the video.
The video shows off how standard images captured with the Wide camera on an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro model support focus editing. Tapping on the aperture icon allows users to use a slider to adjust the amount of blur in the background. This feature works even on images not originally captured in Portrait mode.
The photo’s focus can be changed by tapping on one of the multiple people or objects in the image.
