The iPhone SE 4 (which is known by device identifier D59), is expected to use the same battery found in the base model iPhone 14. MacRumors reports that partially assembled prototypes of the next iPhone SE have been seen equipped with lithium-ion batteries bearing the model number A2863, which Apple has already used in the past.
The battery in question provides improved capacity compared to the current iPhone SE 3, potentially resulting in longer battery life for the end-user:
- iPhone SE 3: 2018 mAh
- iPhone 14 (A2863): 3279 mAh
While Apple puts cutting-edge parts in its top-of-the-line iPhone 15 lineup, Apple will use existing parts to cut costs. We’ve seen Apple do this before, as the second-generation iPhone SE used the exact same battery as the older iPhone 8.
The fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to feature a design similar to last year’s iPhone 14 and is expected to boast an Action button and a USB-C port.
As is usual for reports like this, take it with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning. While MacRumors is certainly a reliable source of news, nothing is for sure until Apple officially uncovers its new iPhone SE 4.
