According to a report today from South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo, LG and Samsung are planning to begin mass production of OLED display panels for Apple’s next-generation iPad Pro models sometime around February 2024. (Via OLED-Info).
The news makes sense, as many expect Apple to launch new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays, an M3 chip, and an aluminum Magic Keyboard in 2024. While some had expected Apple to release new iPad Pro models in March, beginning mass production of OLED display channels in February doesn’t leave enough time to prepare for a March launch, meaning the new iPad Pro models may be unveiled at WWDC in June or at a later date.
OLED technology would eliminate the need for the backlighting currently used for the LCD panels used in Apple’s current iPad Pro models. OLED will also provide a higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, lower power consumption, and more.
There have been several rumors about the iPad Pro using OLED technology floating around for several years, and it appears that it may finally happen in 2024.
