New research shows that Apple’s iPhone 15 has led the global smartphone market out of a 27-month-long sales slump, helping the market see its first positive growth since June 2021.
While the smartphone market has been in a more than two years-long slump, the iPhone has bucked that trend. The iPhone 15 is outperforming the market despite Counterpoint Research’s report that demand for the iPhone 15 in China was failing to match the demand the Chinese market saw for the iPhone 14.
Counterpoint now says that for October 2023, global monthly smartphone sell-through volumes grew 5% year-over-year.
“[A] factor for growth has been the launch of iPhone 15 series,” says the company. “As compared to last year, the launch was delayed by a week which meant the full effect of the new iPhone sales was felt in October.”
Counterpoint says that growth in smartphone sales has been primarily seen in emerging markets, such as the Middle East and Africa. Part of the growth can be attributed to Huawei‘s return to the market, as well as India‘s festive sales season.
Counterpoint recently reported that Apple led its competitors, taking a 43% share of the market.
