Disney on Wednesday said that it will soon merge Disney+ and Hulu into a unified streaming service, with a app to be available in a beta capacity in December.
Disney CEO Bob Iger first announced plans to merge Hulu and Disney+ into a single app back in May. The app will first be offered to those who subscribe to the Disney+ and Hulu bundle, providing those customers with one app to access all their content. While Disney already offers a combined bundle featuring Disney+ and Hulu, subscribers are required to install two separate apps.
Ad-free Disney+ is currently priced at $13.99 per month, while ad-free Hulu is $17.99 per month.
During Wednesday’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Iger said that Disney will begin rolling out the unified app in the United States starting in December, with an official launch in spring 2024.
Disney announced earlier this year that it will pay Comcast more than $8 billion to purchase Comcast’s piece of Hulu. That would make Disney the sole owner of Hulu.
