Canadian Man Quickly Recovers His Stolen BMW, Thanks to Apple’s AirTag

A Canadian man’s BMW was quickly recovered after it was stolen, thanks to a hidden Apple AirTag. Saamer Mansoor had hidden an AirTag in his vehicle about six months ago. The AirTag’s size, which is approximately the size of an American Quarter, makes it easy to hide in vehicles and other large items.

According to a report from CTV News, that was shared by 9to5Mac, Mansoor was able to recover his BMW only a few hours after discovering the vehicle was stolen. His brother alerted him that the BMW was missing, but a quick look at Apple’s Find My revealed it was parked at a motel.

Mansoor and his brother headed to the location shown in the Find My app, calling the police en route. Police were able to recover the vehicle and most of Mansoor’s belongings from inside the vehicle.

Mansoor says he is usually careful when it comes to securing his car. However, Mansoor says he was dealing with his sick son the night before, forgetting to roll up a window.

This is not the first time an AirTag has helped owners recover their property. Police in Charlotte, NC, and Portland, Oregon have both recently recovered items, tracking them with an AirTag.

Unfortunately, AirTags have also been used for nefarious purposes. In June 2022, an Indianapolis man was murdered by being run over repeatedly by a vehicle allegedly driven by his girlfriend. The girlfriend, Gaylyn Morris, is said to have used an Apple AirTag to track her boyfriend, Andre Smith, to a bar where she saw him with another woman.
