Buying a New M3 Mac? There’s a Day One macOS Sonoma Update Waiting for You

If you’re one of the lucky folks who have a new M3, M3 Pro, or M3 Max MacBook Pro or iMac, you’ll need to install an update for macOS Sonoma once you take it out of the box.

While the new Macs will ship with a version of ‌macOS Sonoma‌ 14.1 with a build number of 23B2073, new users will need to install a new version with a build number of 23B2077.

This is not unusual, as Apple often has to manufacture devices that are using an older version of software, due to manufacturing lead times. Apple released the current build of macOS Sonoma 14.1 (23B74) on October 25.

The first news of the need for a right-out-of-the-box update for the new M3 Macs came from a post earlier today by @aaronp613 on the social network formerly known as Twitter (X).

Apple’s new M3 Mac lineup is available for order now, with the M3 and M3 ‌iMac‌ and MacBook Pro models set to arrive to customers on Tuesday, November 7, while M3 Max MacBook Pro models will be delivered later in November.
