Images claiming to show the new battery designed for use in next year’s iPhone 16 Pro were published online today. The photos show a new metal casing and a slightly larger capacity. If the images are authentic, it would mark the first leak about the iPhone 16’s components. The images are courtesy of the leaker known as “Kosutami,” who has provided accurate information about Apple’s plans for devices in the past.
The battery, which has a 3,355 mAh capacity, is said to be designed for use in an early iPhone 16 prototype. That battery is 2.5% larger than the current iPhone 15 Pro’s 3,274 mAh battery. The new battery also features a redesigned connector.

The most noticeable change in the new battery is the frosted metal shell, which would replace the traditional black foil casing, which has been used on every iPhone battery so far. The change should improve the thermal efficiency of the battery, while not adding to the battery’s weight.
Last week, a report shared information that Apple has plans for a new thermal system on the iPhone 16 to reduce overheating. The iPhone 16 lineup is said to include a graphene heat-sink to reduce overheating. Graphene has high thermal conductivity, greater than the copper currently used in iPhone heat sinks.
