Apple today released the Release Candidate of its upcoming tvOS 17.1 update to developers for testing. The RC comes one week following the release of the third beta.
The tvOS 17.1 RC is compatible with the Apple TV 4K (1st and 2nd generation) and the Apple TV HD. The RC can be downloaded to a compatible Apple TV that has the proper profile installed, which can be done by downloading it onto the Apple TV using Xcode. A registered developer account is required.
tvOS 17.1 adds a new favoriting option to the Music app on the Apple TV, along with some other minor Music changes.
While Apple shares information about tvOS releases in its tvOS support document, which is updated after each tvOS public release, the company does not provide notes for beta seeds.
As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas on their daily driver Apple TV, especially early betas of new operating systems. Instead, only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
