Apple Reportedly Working on Larger iPad Air With 12.9-Inch Display

Apple is developing a larger iPad Air boasting a 12.9-inch display, making it the largest iPad Air model to date, according to a report from DigiTimes.

The publication’s sources tell it that, unlike the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the larger iPad Air will not boast a mini-LED display. Instead, the new tablet will use the same LCD technology used in the current, 10.9-inch ‌iPad Air‌.

The iPad Air has traditionally only ever been offered in a single size. The current version’s screen measures in at 10.9-inches. An early October report from 9to5Mac said Apple is likely working on two new versions of its iPad Air 6. The report also claimed that Apple has two cellular and two Wi-Fi models in the works. However, the report did not include what would differentiate the two separate ‌iPad Air‌ models. DigiTimes‌‘ report is the first specific mention of a larger ‌iPad Air‌ variant.

The iPad Air last received a refresh in March 2022, meaning it has already been more than a year since its last update. The current Air is powered by an M1 chip, meaning Apple could be waiting until its M3 chip is ready for prime time, and will wait to release the new iPad Air until the M3 launch.
