Apple Investigating Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 Display Flickering Issue

Apple is investigating a display issue on some Apple Watch models that have Always On enabled. The display brightness briefly flickers or “pulses” on affected Watches. The information comes via an internal service memo shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers. (Via MacRumors)

While the memo does not specify which Apple Watch models are affected, the issue is reportedly is most prevalent on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models.

Customers are complaining about the issue across the MacRumors ForumsReddit, and the Apple Support Community website. The issue appears to be present on all watchOS 10 versions, including the latest watchOS 10.0.2 release.

Apple tells service providers to not attempt to repair affected watches and instead tell customers to keep their Apple Watch software up to date. This suggests that Apple will eventually make a fix available in a watchOS update. While watchOS 10.1 is expected to be released to the public next week, we don’t know whether the update includes a fix for the issue.

As a temporary “fix,” Apple says customers can turn off “Always On” mode in the Settings app under “Display & Brightness” -> “Always On.”

Apple is also investigating an issue where complications like Activity rings on a watch face might “temporarily turn pink.”
