Apple’s iPhone 15 is expected to mark the handset’s move to using USB-C connectivity in place of its traditional Lightning connectivity. A new survey conducted by SellCell indicates that the move to USB-C could entice a large number of Android phone users to make the move to iOS.
SellCell surveyed 1,000+ iPhone users and more than 1,000 Android users in the United States to gather the data collected in the survey.
The survey showed:
Of those who would buy because of USB-C, the majority of iPhone users (37%) said they would upgrade because they would be able to use a single charging cable for iPhones, Macs, and iPads. Overall, 66% of iPhone users said that they will upgrade to an iPhone 15.
Apple has used the Lightning port on the iPhone for more than 10 years, as the Cupertino firm’s proprietary charging/syncing port debuted in September 2012 with the debut of the iPhone 5.
Apple is expected to switch the iPhone to USB-C this year, due to new regulations in Europe for all consumer mobile and laptop devices to use a universal charging standard.
Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro lineup at its “Wonderlust” September 12 event. The company is also expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 9 and a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra.
