Apple to Bring Beta Version of visionOS App Store to Developer Beta This Fall

Apple on Tuesday announced that it will bring the new visionOS App Store to a developer beta release of visionOS this fall. The new app store will feature games and apps built for visionOS, as well as iPhone and iPad apps that are compatible with the headset.

Timing. Starting this fall, an upcoming developer beta release of visionOS will include the App Store. By default, your iPad and/or iPhone apps will be published automatically on the App Store on Apple Vision Pro. Most frameworks available in iPadOS and iOS are also included in visionOS, which means nearly all iPad and iPhone apps can run on visionOS, unmodified. Customers will be able to use your apps on visionOS early next year when Apple Vision Pro becomes available.

By default, Apple says that iPhone and iPad apps will be published automatically to the visionOS App Store on Apple Vision Pro. If an app requires a feature that is not available on the headset, ‌the app developer will be informed that it is not compatible and will need updates before it is made available to consumers.

Developers can then make changes and use the ‌visionOS‌ simulator in the Xcode 15 beta to test app functionality. Further testing can be done through a compatibility evaluation or at one of Apple’s developer labs.
