We’ve seen a couple of rumors saying Apple will not offer leather cases for use with its upcoming iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro lineups. Now a pair of leakers have shared case images on the social network formerly known as Twitter.
Leakers Majin Bu and @DuanRui both tweeted case images separately sourced from Weibo and said to be based on Apple’s official leather-alternative cases. The cases show what an alternative leather-like case from Apple may look like, with leakers again suggesting they will use vegan materials instead of leather, but with a different feel and texture.
The cases are reportedly made of a patchwork of two materials that are said to be more eco-friendly with a smaller carbon footprint than cowhide leather. The colors shown are not believed to be representative of any official Apple case.
That information jibes with claims from “ShrimpApplePro” and 9to5Mac claiming that they have heard the same information from other sources, so the rumor seems worth putting into the “Hey! It could happen” column.
Apple released its first leather iPhone cases back in 2013, alongside the debut of the iPhone 5S. Each year since then, a new variety of colors of leather cases have been offered for each succeeding iPhone model year. Apple has added new features for the cases as new iPhones were released with new features, such as MagSafe.
We’re likely to get a peek at the new lineup of official iPhone 15 cases alongside the debut of the iPhone 15 series, which is expected to be announced at a press event set to occur on September 12.
