Apple will donate $10 to the National Park Foundation each time a purchase is made in the U.S. using Apple Pay on Apple.com, in the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store, up to a maximum of $1 million.
Apple has made donations of this type to the National Park Foundation annually since 2017. The program runs from today (August 21) through August 27.
Apple celebrates the U.S. national parks every August, offering special content across Apple Maps and other apps. Plus, Apple Watch users can unlock a special national parks award in the Fitness app on August 26, by recording a workout of 20 minutes or more in any app that saves workouts to the Apple Health app.
Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the parks provide a “sense of awe, tranquility, and quiet reverence only nature can inspire,” saying that they are “well worth protecting, today and for every generation to come.”
Apple will also hold a National Parks activity challenge on Saturday, August 26, celebrating national parks across the United States.
Apple Watch owners who hike, walk, run, or do a wheelchair workout that lasts for at least 20 minutes will earn a special 2023 National Parks award.
