Apple earlier this week began allowing developers to apply for a Vision Pro developer kit for the purpose of app development. Developers that receive approval will need to undergo a customization process, which includes a tailored headset fit for the lead developer.
As shared by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple will use an app designed to help developers determine the correct Head Band and Light Seal fit for the Vision Pro.
Developers who wear glasses and need optical inserts will need to send Zeiss prescription information.

It appears that the kits will be customized for a single developer, meaning other developers on the team may not be able to enjoy the full Vision Pro experience, as a snug fit between the face and the Light Seal is required.
Apple says that Apple Vision Pro headsets are Apple-owned development devices. Developers will be required to keep the headsets where they are shipped in a private, secure workspace that is accessible only by the developers who were approved to work with one.
The Apple developer website also mentions unpairing an AirTag when returning a kit, which indicates Apple is using its coin-shaped item tracking tags to track the headsets. Vision Pro developer kits are shipped in a lockable case that needs to be kept locked when the headset is between uses, and the headsets must be kept in a secure location.
While Apple has been accepting applications since earlier this week, we haven’t heard anything yet about any developers having had their applications approved.
