Some Users Report Issues Installing macOS 14 Sonoma Beta 4

Apple on Tuesday released the fourth beta of macOS 14 Sonoma, but you might want to hold off installing the new beta, as some users are reporting issues installing it on their Macs.

MacRumors reports that some people in their forums report they downloaded and installed the beta only to be greeted with an entirely black screen and a non-functional device. The mouse pointer is visible, but nothing shows up on the display. So far, Macs affected by the issue include M2 14-inch MacBook Pro, an M1 MacBook Air, and an M1 Max MacBook Pro, but not all users are reporting installation issues.

A Reddit user says they were able to fix the issue by going into recovery mode and reinstalling the beta. Another user reported eventual success with multiple reboots.

MacRumors forum members also report issues with widgets not showing up properly and the Music app refusing to open, both issues were fixed with a restart.

Issues like these are the reason why MacTrast and Apple have both long warned users to not install any betas on their daily driver Mac, instead only installing betas on Macs set aside for testing purposes.
