Shaking Heads, Mushrooms, and a Phoenix, Oh My! Here Are the Emoji We Could See in 2024

Emoji fans could have access to several new emoji in 2024. Characters including a lime, a phoenix bird, a brown mushroom, a shaking head, and many more could be included in the upcoming Emoji 15.1 specification that the Unicode Consortium is expected to approve this September.

Emojipedia today listed a group of proposed emoji currently under consideration. However many emoji at this stage are already approved and will make it into the official emoji releases.

Although Emojipedia created and shared sample designs for the proposed emoji, they are not the exact versions that will be used on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

While there are 108 new directional emoji, most of the count consists of people emoji with multiple skin tones. The emoji expand on some existing emoji,  such as a person walking, a person running, a person kneeling, a person with a white cane, a person in a manual wheelchair, and a person in a motorized wheelchair emoji, adding directions like left and right.

Emoji 15.1 characters are expected to be finalized in September 2023. We will then see Apple, Microsoft, Google, and other device manufacturers add the new emoji via future software updates. Apple usually takes its sweet time before adding the new emoji, so we likely won’t see the Cupertino firm add them to its devices until 2024.
