Bloomberg’s Gurman: Next-Generation iPad Air With Slightly Improved Specs in Development

Apple is currently working on a sixth-generation iPad Air, says Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, who briefly mentions the Cupertino firm’s mid-range tablet in his latest Power On newsletter. However, Gurman is not certain when the updated iPad Air will hit shelves.

Gurman says he does not expect any major upgrades to the iPad lineup this year, but a slightly spec-bumped iPad Air could see the light of day later this year or next.

“For those wondering about the iPad — another product that typically gets refreshed in October — I wouldn’t expect any major upgrades until the M3 iPad Pros with OLED screens arrive next year,” wrote Gurman. He added that “an iPad Air model that boosts its specifications is also in development,” but did not provide any further details.

Apple’s last update to the iPad Air took place in March 2022 when an M1-powered model was released, with an upgraded 12-megapixel front camera with Center Stage support, a faster USB-C port, 5G support for cellular models, and new color options. The base price is $599 in the U.S. for a 64GB model.

Gurman did not specify what upgrades we might see in a spec-bumped iPad Air, but it could include an M2 chip, a Thunderbolt port, new color options, and more.
