Last year, Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple will switch some of its accessories – including the MagSafe Battery Pack, AirPods, and the Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Trackpad – to USB-C in the “foreseeable future.” The current MagSafe Battery Pack is currently equipped with a Lightning port.
Possible improvements for the MagSafe Battery Pack could include Qi2 support, which could allow for up to 15W charging of non-Apple devices instead of the current 7.5W limit. Qi2 will enable faster charging for some devices. It will also pave the way for significant future increases in wireless charging speeds that are safe, and energy-efficient and won’t shorten battery life or damage a user’s phone.
Apple first released the MagSafe Battery Pack in 2021, while the MagSafe Charger has been available since 2020. Other than several firmware updates, the charging duo has not been updated
