Apple’s Developer Betas Now Free to Download and Install – No $99 Dev Membership Required

Apple has traditionally limited access to its developer betas to developers that have paid $99 per year for a paid developer account. While there are still advantages to paying the 99 bucks, you no longer have to pay to access the most recent developer betas, including the iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 Sonoma, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 betas released to developers on Monday.

From now on, all that’s required is to enroll in the free level of the Apple Developer program with your Apple ID to gain access to the betas.

“OS beta releases” is now listed as an available resource for those who are not paid members of the Apple Developer Program.

You can learn how to develop apps for Apple platforms for free without enrolling. With just an Apple ID, you can access Xcode, software downloads, documentation, sample code, forums, and Feedback Assistant, as well as test your apps on devices. If you don’t already have an Apple ID, you can create one now. To distribute apps, join the Apple Developer Program.

As we and Apple have both warned you over the years, you should not install these betas on your main daily drive device, as betas, especially early betas can contain show-stopping bugs and other issues. For more information, visit Apple’s membership page.
