As had been expected, Apple today unveiled its new 15-inch MacBook Air, which features a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display, is powered by an M2 SoC, offers up to 18 hours of battery life, and features a silent, fanless design.
The new MacBook Air weighs just 3.3 pounds and measures only 11.5mm thick, which Apple says makes it the world’s thinnest 15-inch laptop. It sports an all-new six-speaker sound system, which delivers immersive Spatial Audio. The new Air also has a 1080p FaceTime HD camera and uses MagSafe charging.
The new MacBook Air also boasts two Thunderbolt ports, which come in handy for peripherals, as well as an up to a 6K external display, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It will be available in four finishes — midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the first 15-inch MacBook Air. With its incredible performance and striking design, the new MacBook Air is the world’s best 15-inch laptop. And it’s only possible with Apple silicon,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “From its expansive Liquid Retina display and remarkably thin and fanless design, to extraordinary battery life and an immersive six-speaker sound system, the new MacBook Air has it all.”
The 15-inch MacBook Air features an 8-core CPU with four performance cores and four efficiency cores, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. The M2 also delivers 100GB/s of memory bandwidth and supports up to 24GB of fast unified memory,
Apple says the new MacBook Air uses 100% recycled gold plating and tin soldering in multiple printed circuit boards, and 100% recycled rare earth elements in all magnets. The MacBook Air also uses 100% recycled cobalt in the MagSafe connector and 90% recycled steel in the battery tray.
