Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says Apple is developing updated 13-inch MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro models, as well as a larger 15-inch MacBook Air. Gurman says at least some of these new MacBooks will debut at WWDC 2023 in June.
In his newsletter on Sunday, Gurman said the new MacBooks coming at WWDC “probably won’t” be powered by Apple’s next-generation M3 chip, but will instead have processors “in line with” the M2 chip.
Gurman suggests the new 15-inch MacBook Air will be powered by the M2 chip, but he doesn’t make it totally clear what will power the 13-inch MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Both of those models are already powered by an M2 chip.
The 15-inch MacBook Air has been rumored since early 2021. Reports have indicated that Apple’s suppliers have ramped up production of 15-inch display panels for the new laptop. Gurman reported last week that an unreleased 15-inch MacBook Air powered by a processor that is “on par” with the M2 chip had been discovered in App Store developer logs.
Apple is expected to unveil macOS 14 during the WWDC keynote on June 5, and Gurman does not expect the new version of macOS to include major changes.
