Japanese website Mac Otakara has shared a video in which it attempts to insert what are said to be size-accurate dummies of the iPhone 15 lineup into model-comparable iPhone 14 cases. The results are not good for iPhone 14 owners hoping to use their current cases to protect their new iPhone 15 handsets.
In the video, what are said to be size-accurate 3D model-printed versions of the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are shown to have dimensions that make them incompatible with the older iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max cases.
The Pro dummies feature curved edges, smaller bezels, and a slightly larger rear camera housing, in line with design rumors. There’s also a USB-C port replacing the Lightning port on all four models. All of these features have been rumored to be present and accounted for on the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup.
The 3D printouts were sourced from Alibaba and if they are accurate, Mac Otakara‘s tests confirm that the small changes Apple is allegedly making in the chassis dimensions of the iPhone 15 handsets do make them unusable with iPhone 14 cases. However, there was one exception, as the iPhone 15 Plus model did fit iPhone 14 Plus cases.
