Apple Announces WWDC 2023 Swift Student Challenge, Some Winners to Attend Special Event at Apple Park

Apple today announced that it will hold its 34th annual Worldwide Developers Conference from Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9. As is traditional, Apple is now accepting submissions for its annual Swift Student Challenge, which tasks students with submitting an app playground on the topic of their choice.

Submissions can be submitted starting today and will be accepted through April 19 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Entrants must be 13 years of age or older in the United States, or the equivalent minimum age in other countries. Entrants must also be a student of some sort.

Student submissions must be an interactive scene in an app playground that can be experienced within three minutes. Submissions will be judged on technical accomplishment, the creativity of the ideas, and the content of written responses explaining the project and other app development experiences.

Winners will receive exclusive WWDC 2023 outerwear, AirPods Pro, a customized pin set, and a one-year membership in the Apple Developer Program.

To be eligible for the Challenge, you must:

  • Be 13 years of age or older in the United States, or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction (for example, 16 years of age in the European Union);
  • Be registered for free with Apple as an Apple developer or be a member of the Apple Developer Program;
  • Fulfill one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in an accredited academic institution or official homeschool equivalent;
    • Be enrolled in a STEM organization’s educational curriculum;
    • Be enrolled in an Apple Developer Academy; or
    • Have graduated from high school or equivalent within the past 6 months and be awaiting acceptance or have received acceptance to an accredited academic institution;
  • And not be employed full time as a developer.

Please note: The Challenge is designed for student developers who are cultivating their software development skills. You can receive a Swift Student Challenge award or a WWDC Scholarship up to four times.

Apple will also conduct a random selection process among winners to select students to attend the special event that Apple will hold at Apple Park on June 5. Students can opt-in to this selection process when uploading their projects. Travel and accommodations will not be included.

Apple will inform students about their status by the end of business on Tuesday, May 9. Entries can be submitted through Apple’s developer website.
