An iPhone with an under-display Face ID component will not debut until 2025 at the earliest, says display industry analyst Ross Young, who has a good track record when it comes to display-related predictions about future Apple products.
Young had previously said that he expected Apple to launch its first iPhone sporting an under-display Face ID component in 2024 but he now says the timeframe for the feature has been pushed back to 2025, due to “sensor issues.”
Under panel Face ID is now expected to be pushed at least a year to 2025 or later due to sensor issues.

If Young’s timeframe is correct, the “iPhone 17 Pro” would be the first model with Face ID hidden under the display. However, Young still expects to see a hole in the display to allow for the front camera on the device.
Young’s revised timeframe does not jibe with a tweet by Apple industry analyst who in April 2022 said Apple could debut its first truly full-screen iPhone in 2024. Kuo said the “iPhone 16 Pro” could be the first Apple handset to feature an under-display Face ID and an under-screen front camera.
