Apple Watch ECG App High Heart Rate Alerts Helps Save Lives of Pregnant Woman and Unborn Baby

A woman says her Apple Watch saved her and her unborn baby’s life by alerting her of an unusually high heart rate. Jesse Kelly had a few weeks left until her due date and while she hadn’t been engaging in any activities that would raise her heart rate to over 120 beats per minute, her Apple Watch kept warning of a high heart rate.

“It went off the first time and I thought it was strange,” Kelly told CBS News. “Then the second time maybe ten minutes later or so and then the third time maybe a half hour or so later. When it went off the third time I thought ‘OK something is going on.'”

She immediately went to the hospital, where it was discovered that she was in labor and had been losing blood due to a pregnancy complication known as placenta abruption. Her blood pressure was dropping. Fortunately, doctors were able to deliver her healthy baby girl safely.

Kelly is grateful for not only the doctors and nurses that cared for her, but also for her Apple Watch that gave her a warning. After her experience, she advises everyone to pay attention to their alerts.

“It’s not just a text message,” she said. “Pay attention to it and listen to your body.”
