Apple has seeded the release candidate of watchOS 9.2 to developers for testing purposes. The RC release comes one week following the fourth watchOS 9.2 beta.
The watchOS 9.2 release candidate can be installed on an Apple Watch with the proper configuration profile installed, via the Watch app on the device’s attached iPhone. Go to “General” -> “Software Update” to install the RC. The Watch should have at least 50% battery life, be connected to a charger, and be within range of the iPhone.
watchOS 9.2 introduces support for a new Home app architecture that has also been added to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and macOS Ventura. The update also adds a race route workout feature for runners and cyclists. Race Route allows athletes to compete against themselves on a route they’ve already completed or tracked as an outdoor run or outdoor cycle on Apple Watch.
As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas on their daily driver Apple Watch, especially early versions of new operating systems. Instead, only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
