Twitter on Wednesday rolled out its updated $7.99 per month Twitter Blue subscription offering.
The new subscription offers 50% fewer ads, the ability to post longer videos, and access to new Twitter Blue features, prioritized replies, mentions and search, and more. The subscription also includes the same blue and white “verified” badge that was previously available only for verified accounts.
Elon Musk calls the new Twitter Blue subscription “the great leveler,” and has expressed distaste that the verification badge was only available to public figures, businesses, celebrities, journalists, and other high-profile users
Musk hasn’t announced how Twitter will handle identity verification now that the blue badge no longer identifies genuine users. Twitter had announced that it was rolling out “Official” labels for previously verified accounts, but the feature was killed and its status is currently unknown.
Currently, accounts that sported the verification badge continue to display them. However, Musk has said these will be removed for those who do not pay.
