Twitter to Charge $20 a Month for Blue Checkmark Verification, Say Media Reports

Elon Musk-owned Twitter will charge users $20 per month if they want to gain or retain a coveted blue checkmark showing they are confirmed on the platform, say multiple media reports.

The Verge and Platformer are both reporting that a new tier is on the way to Twitter Blue, costing $20 per month and including verification on the platform. Currently, applying for the blue checkmark is free, with users needing only need to show that their account is “authentic, notable, and active.”

The Verge says that currently verified users on Twitter will have 90 days to subscribe to the new $20 per-month Twitter Blue subscription or lose their blue checkmark if the plan goes through.

Musk has reportedly told engineers to have the project completed by November 7 or else they’ll be fired, per “internal correspondence.”

Musk tweeted on Sunday that Twitter’s verification process is “being revamped right now,” but did not provide any additional details.

Executives at the newly Elon Musk-owned company have spent the weekend discussing the move and making plans related to the project, according to two people familiar with the matter, says Platformer.

Twitter Blue is currently $4.99 and offers the ability to edit tweets, change the app icon, and more.
