Apple Cuts iPhone 14 Plus Orders With Supply Chain Partners

Apple has been making moves to cut back on iPhone 14 Plus orders, less than two weeks after the new model launched, says a report by DigiTimes. The cuts with Apple’s supply chain makers come on the heels of unexpectedly slow sales of the Plus.

DigiTimes says several supply chain makers and channel operators have confirmed that they received notification from Apple to cut ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus production by around 40%. Apple is believed to be shifting production from no-Pro models in order to manufacture more iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

Other than improved iPhone 14 Plus sales in China, shipments in most markets are flat, causing Apple to adjust shipment ratios for its iPhone 14 lineup. DigiTimes says its sources told it that total shipments of the ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus will likely be revised downward to around 10 million units for 2022.

In September, Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple had told iPhone manufacturing partner Foxconn to increase its production of iPhone 14 Pro models, thanks to strong demand for the new devices.

Despite this adjustment in orders, total iPhone 14 series shipments in 2022 will likely maintain at 85-90 million units, according to today’s report.
