If you’re planning on shooting mostly in ProRAW on your new iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max, let’s hope you opted for a large amount of internal storage when you ordered it this morning. 48-megapixel ProRAW photos taken via the Camera app take up to three times the space than those taken on the iPhone 13 Pro and its 12-megapixel shooter.
According to code found within the iOS 16 release candidate released this week shared by MacRumors, 48-megapixel ProRAW photos taken on the Main camera will be approximately 75MB in size, which is three times larger than photos taken with the 12-megapixel sensor on an iPhone 13 Pro.
In a hands-on video by YouTuber Sara Dietschy, a photo taken with the 48MP sensor can be seen in the Photo apps weighing in at 80.4MB in size for an 8,064 by 6,048 resolution photo.
While it makes sense, we’ve always known that more megapixels equal more required storage for photos. This makes it important for users to carefully consider their usage scenario for their new handset. If you plan on using your iPhone 14 Pro’s 48-megapixel sensor to its full effect, you’ll want to opt for the larger storage tiers. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are offered in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options
