With the release of its second generation AirPods Pro wireless earbuds, Apple has added a U1 chip to the earbuds charging case, to allow for Precision Finding in “Find My.” A speaker built into the case can emit a sound to aid you in locating the case (and your new AirPods Pro, if they’re inside of the case.)
That speaker can also play an audible chime whenever you start charging the Charging Case, either via its Lightning connector or by putting it on a charging pad.
Some may not like this feature, so here’s how to toggle it off and on:
- Connect your AirPods Pro 2 to your iPhone.
- Launch the Settings app.
- Tap the AirPods Pro 2 menu item, found just under your Apple ID.
- On the next screen, scroll down and toggle off the switch next to Enable Charging Case Sounds. If the switch is green, the sounds will play, if its not, the case will remain silent.
(Please note that the setting will remain grayed out if the Charging Case is currently connected to power.)
