Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers have received a new tool to help them determine if a customer’s iPhone is unexpectedly restarting.
Customers that own an iPhone 11 or newer that are experiencing unexpected restarting can now take them to their local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Providers, where techs can run a new “System Stability” diagnostic tool, which will examine the device’s analytics logs to determine if the device has experienced multiple unexpected restarts over the previous 14 days.
If the diagnostic process determines that unexpected starts have taken place, technicians are advised to go forward on a hardware repair, says a memo obtained and shared by MacRumors. If the diagnostic doesn’t show unexpected restarts, Apple advises technicians to direct the customer to a new support document with hardware and software troubleshooting tips.
The new “System Stability” diagnostic suite (which is part of Apple Service Toolkit 2), allows Apple technicians to quickly determine if a customer’s iPhone is unexpectedly restarting, without the need to restore the device or manually review analytics logs for kernel panics, which has been the accepted methods in the past.
